Land Clearing Perth – What Is An Excavator?

It is fun to watch huge machines at work in excavation sites. Machines like excavators are common on worksites. These earthwork machines are engineering vehicles designed for digging trenches, holes or foundations. They are also used in land clearing Perth, demolition, lifting and placing heavy materials especially pipes, river dredging, landscaping and brush cuttings (with hydraulic attachments).

The term ‘excavators’ is used for all kind of digging equipment, including excavators. Excavators have a moving arm, a bucket and a cab attached on a rotating platform. The machines come with tracks or wheels, which basically derived from steam shovels.

Excavators are also known as diggers and 360-degree excavators or some simply call it 360. The tracked version of the machine is also called ‘track hoes’ because of its resemblance to the backhoe. And for some people, they refer to excavators as front hoes.

There are different sizes of excavators, but the most popular are large excavators and mini excavators. The large excavators weigh around 85,000 kg and their bucket size is usually 4.5 m 3. These earthmovers are often used for industrial excavation projects.

Mini excavators, also known as compact excavators, are the smallest models that generally weigh around 1,500 kg and they have a bucket size of 0.036 m 3. The difference between the mini excavator to the larger one is that all the movements and functions are supported by hydraulic fluid. Mini excavators are useful in worksites with limited space available as it can get into small spaces where larger machines cannot reach.
